8th Annual British Miniaturists Weekend
Will take place from Friday 15th to Sunday 17th February 2008
at The Quality Hotel, Walsall,
Thinking of joining us?
A Miniaturists idea of heaven, a weekend of workshops, meeting up with like minded friends, making new friends and a mini fair at the same time.
Social time during the evenings and if you have time or energy you can swim in the hotel spar pool!
Take home miniatures made with pride and confidence to show your friends.
Programme:
Friday 15th February, arrival at the hotel from 2.30pm onwards, check in, you can have a swim in the hotel spar pool if you wish or join in chatting and maybe doing impromptu demos with arriving members, catching up with gossip etc.
Carvery Dinner at 6.pm
Workshops begin at 7.30 pm til 10.30 pm
Time for socialising or have an early night to get ready for Saturday.
Breakfast Saturday; workshops begin at 9.30 am until 12.30 pm; 1.30 pm until 4.30 pm
Carvery Dinner at 6 pm.
Workshops 7.30 pm to 10.30 pm.
Bed & Breakfast Sunday for workshops again starting at 9.30 am as Saturday till 4.30 pm
Morning and afternoon refreshments and lunch is served both Saturday and Sunday.
It's a set rate of £68.50 per 24 hours or £137.00 from Friday to Sunday.
There are options for arriving early and staying longer.
Workshops are extra!
If coming in from the local area (live too near to stay over) there is a conference fee payable to include refreshments and lunch; also an option to include dinner.

You don't have to be a minis4all members but it does help, you must also have email access which makes life a lot easier for contact.
This is all weekend of miniature workshops, sales tables and loads of fun.

There is a maximum number of 8 students per class so booking is required. This is on a first to book basis.
Anyone arriving early on FRIDAY can join in and watch or learn from Les McBurnie
2pm – 3pm Beginning with an introductory demonstration of miniature wood lathe work, using various tools and media (Wood, Nylon Etc) coupled with the opportunity for hands on practice using lathes and tools provided, with an emphasis on health and safety.
3pm – 4-pm A demonstration of woodworking techniques and tips using the Proxon Table Saw with accessories. coupled with the opportunity for hands on practice, again with an emphasis on health and safety

Workshops taking place:
3 Day workshop, FRIDAY 15th to SUNDAY 17th February 2008 with Sue Simpson. - 1/24th Scale Game Keeper's Cottage.
Cost £115.
The cottage itself measures 10" wide, 6" deep and 9" high.
The base measures 13" wide and 10" deep but if you want it larger/smaller let me know when you book.
Description: Make a complete 1/24 cottage using Paperclay. .
Learn how tomake bricks, stone, plaster, roof tiles, peeling plaster,
water trough, glowing cooking range, dead pheasants (!) and to light your cottage.
This cottage is electrified with indirect lighting on both floors and glowing
embers in the range and it might not be so obvious on the photographs. You can, of course, make your cottage more dilapidated or even spick and span adding a garden and flowers when you get home, it can be any type of cottage you want.
This class is suitable for all skill levels. If you can use a craft knife, a
rolling pin and a paintbrush you're sorted, BUT, there is a lot to do
and wewill be very busy.
Everything you see in the photographs on the Minis4all website will be
included in the class. Depending when you read this, further items will
probably have been added to my cottage and will be shown on the photographson my Webshots, but these won't be included.

Available in yew wood or mahogany, this bookshelf has a stepped back design with 3 different sized shelves, two are adjustable/removable.
The base will have a decorative vertical front grain,{not shown]and be

Jane Harrop - Home front …’ Talk free' (£8 for kit - 1/12th scale)
Friday evening
Join me on the Friday evening to go back in time to the late 1930s and 40s. We shall be looking at home furnishings in 1/12th scale, and discussing the styles and finishes that were fashionable and necessary during that time. You will have the choice at the end of the talk of purchasing a kit to make up a gas mask and box, and personal wartime documents.
Orders for the kits beforehand would be appreciated to ensure that I have enough made up.

Birgit Mathias from Germany has kits available to make something for your dolls house
Two versions of a special Wedding Album,
with spaces for different sized photographs, the wedding invitation,
menu and other mementoes. The cover is from white silk this time and
with golden or flower embellishments. The pages have matching coloured
designs.
I will prepare kits with detailed instructions, all needed materials
included, the cover already finished. The kit will have also lots of
pictures from the victorian era to choose from plus the mentioned
invitation and menue. They will cost 5.50 pounds.
Eva Maria Seeberger from Germany will show you how to make a
Victorian style letter rack, wooden version or with flower pattern (pink roses or violets).
Cost of the kit will be 5,50 Pound.
This is a small project for a smooth "warm up" on Friday evening. It will take approx. 30 to 45 minutes - depending on skill - to finish it.
Participants will get all the required material for one rack including letters.
The parts are all ready cut and finished. Participants have to assemble and glue the parts, and can add an embellishment to the edges.
Together with the kit comes a cut out sheet with various victorian and modern letters, postcards and envelopes.

1/144th Farmyard scene with Rita Boyle - Cost:- £30
This is a workshop for those addicted to this very tiny scale.
Rita has done several small scale workshops for minis4all weekends and is also doing two workshops in the USA for NAME.
This workshop includes a house with a thatched roof and climbing plants. There is also a barn and pigsty, with lots of livestock, including a cow, pigs, sheep, horses and chickens. There is also a pond with ducks and/or geese, plus trees, a path, flowers and a hedge all around the property. There is also the farmer and his wife or another farmhand at work.
Tools etc required:-
Green paint for base.
Stain or paint for house and barn.
White pva glue.
Super glue (I prefer super glue gel)
Very fine pointed tweezers.

Iris Boughton and make two Open Suitcases - Half day workshop £10.00
These are opening suitcases (designed to be on show opened, but can be closed)
They will not be the colour of the ones in the photo which were done to showhow the cases are made.
You will receive a kit with the necessary leather and card former and items
for embellishment, for two cases. You can bring items to put inside if you
wish. You need sharp scissors and glue (not too thick)

A chair designed to be uncomfortable!!! was located in
the entry hall to deter unwanted guests. Usually
slightly decorative this all wooden chair [yew or
mahogany] has a spoon shaped seat, key hole shaped
back, curved back legs and straight tapering front
legs.
All parts will be supplied, with tuition on french
polishing too. Mahogany parts will be prestained, yew
wood will use a coloured polish.

The kits for preparation work, with full wood colouring and finishing instructions and ‘tester’ wood pieces, will be posted out after Christmas, so that you can experiment and complete the preparation work at your leisure, without the pressure or time constraints of a workshop.
Anyone wishing to take part in more than one of my half-day workshops should deduct £5 from the cost of any further kits.
Please note that there may be slight variations between the two scales, such as drawer knobs, but in general most things remain the same, apart from the size! All of the items shown on the photograph will be made during the workshop and there will be a choice of dummy figure boards (photo shows the cat) available for you to make up.

Learn tips for decorating your hats using the huge selection of trimmings
provided. The workshop will also cover making silk ribbon roses, bows and rosettes, which can then be used on your creations. Included in the workshop is an illustrated instructions booklet with patterns.

Iris Boughton - Wicker' Ottoman[ - Half Day workshop £10.00
This matches the 'Lloyd Loom ' chair which was taught at the first Ribby
Hall.
This is woven and then put on a card former.
The kit contains the thread and wire (ready to weave) and the former for the inner.
You don't need any special tools as I will have the necessary items
including the PVA glue for coating it.

This design evolved from the military campain
furniture: and was origanily a shell box which was
decorativly shaped and mounted on 4 scroll return
feet. A handle at each end ment it was easy to move
around. Used for drink bottles at first but possibly
more boringly used now for newspapers and
magazines. Avaliable in yew or mahogany[prestained], all
wooden parts, brass handles and french polish will be
supplied.

Black Doctors bag and handbag with straps and tiny working buckles
Make a genuine looking Victorian/Edwardian leather doctors bag. The bag will open, so you can add your own tiny stethoscope, piece of muslin cloth and bottles of medicine etc.
Then make one or more handbags with straps and real tiny working buckles, and again you will be able to open these bags. There will be a selection of leather and other suitable materials to make your bags from, so you can make a matching set in different sizes. Or make several the same size in different materials, choose on the day when you have seen the samples.

sculpting a tiny pacifier (or two) that can "stick" to the baby faces, a
baby bottle, a tiny bracelet with your baby's name on (please decide on
a baby name with not more that 6 letters) and last but best - a tiny
tigger suit!! Please bring sharp scissors. Time: 1 ½ to 2 hours

Project includes: wood pre-cut to assemble shelving unit,
2 plates,bowl, cup and saucer to paint,
2 cookery books to make and jam jar to assemble.
Kit also includes a teaspoon for the cup and saucer.
TOOLS: Please bring a gluing jig, glue, craft knife and metal rule.
There will be a choice of wood stains and paints but if you have a specific colour in mind please bring it with you.
Paint used for the crockery is standard acrylic paints applied with cocktail sticks and micro brushes (both supplied).

SATURDAY EVENING & ALL DAY SUNDAY:
Tanis Rushten a Working Miniature railway. £100
The tiny train set actually works!
It runs on the custom built track and through scenery that you will create from a selection available.
The the engine is 1/900 which makes it about 00 gauge for a dollhouse. The overall sizes are 4 inches by 7 inches or 4 inches by 4 inches.
It is powered by either a 9 volt battery or a 9 volt mains transformer.
Hidden behind the back rim of the display table is a small jack point connection, so the power for this truly remarkable little train is completely hidden and can be operated at the flick of a switch.
Designs vary and the student will be presented with a number of scenic alternatives.
Or perhaps you would prefer a typical Christmas Morning Scene?
All of the layouts can be made either as a floor display or with legs and the traditional "skirt" choosing from different options on offer. Please specify your choice, or you may take potluck the day of class.
The workshop includes the basic layout with either the scenery or Christmas Tree with working lights and gifts.
You will need a basic tool kit.

You will finish the outside....window and door.....wallpaper the inside...
tile paper the floor........electrify the box.......build a display cabinet.
Then you will decorate the inside walls with clocks and pictures. After that
you will make display boards with jewellery and other items, finishing with
a complete display box which is ready to plug into your transformer.

The workshop is to make the sink unit with tiled splash-back and draining boards, finishing a sink made from air-drying clay and a faux marble technique to decorate the plinth and pillars.

Make a working pair of 'Brooke Look' Candlestick Lamps, aka Banquet Lamps.
With a brass candlestick base and a small silk shade this lamp style was one of Brookes most popular.
Please note that I have sought and been granted permission to teach this
workshop from Brooke Tucker. Permission was granted on the strict
understanding that the resulting lamps must not be passed off as, or sold
as, Brooke Tucker Originals. They must not be duplicated for sale and are
made as one offs for your own use only. You must agree to these terms when you book the workshop.
Kit will be provided with all the materials needed to make the working
lamps, there will be a small choice of colours for the silk shade.
Workshop cost = £20.00
Tools needed: sharp scissors, tacky glue and general workbox and needlework tools.

Kit choice - 1/12th or 1/24th
On this concluding workshop we shall be making a kitchen chair, washboard wringer and accessories. You have the choice of making it in either 1/12th scale or 1/24th scale. All of the wooden pieces will be cut to size beforehand for ease of construction and you will be required to colour them before the workshop takes place.
The kits for preparation work, with full wood colouring and finishing instructions and ‘tester’ wood pieces, will be posted out after Christmas, so that you can experiment and complete the preparation work at your leisure, without the pressure or time constraints of a workshop.
Anyone wishing to take part in more than one of my half-day workshops should deduct £5 from the cost of any further kits.
Please note that there may be slight variations between the two scales, such as the materials used to make the accessories, but in general most things remain the same, apart from the size! All of the items shown on the photograph will be made during the workshop and there will be a choice of dummy figure boards (photo shows the cat) available for you to make up.
